Batteries in bins start fires
In just the last few years, batteries have been the cause of nearly 10,000 fires and fire events reported by the waste and recycling industry across Australia.
As more and more of our electronic devices come with embedded and non-removable batteries, this fire risk is increasing.
Don't risk the lives of waste and recycling workers by placing batteries in kerbside bins.
Drop them off for FREE at one of the many safe recycling locations available.
That includes not only loose and handheld batteries, but also embedded batteries contained within cordless and rechargeable appliances. This includes rechargeable headphones, bluetooth speakers, vacuum cleaners, lamps, irons, phones, laptops and many other common household items you can plug in and recharge.
Drop loose and embedded batteries off for FREE recycling at any of the following locations:
- Loose and handheld batteries up to 5kg - at most supermarkets and hardware stores or any of the many BCycle drop-off locations
- Rechargeable appliances that contain embedded batteries - at one of the Green Industries SA household hazardous waste disposal locations
- TVs and computers (including rechargeable tablets and laptops) - at the Beverley Recycling and Waste Centre or any Unplug N' Drop location
- Mobile phones - at your local Optus or Vodafone outlet or any MobileMuster location
All of the above services are provided FREE OF CHARGE for householders.
