Supporting the Circular Economy

The circular economy is a production and consumption based system designed to minimise waste and maximise the reuse of resources.

Unlike a traditional linear economy based on 'make, use, dispose', a circular economy keeps products, equipment, and infrastructure in use for longer, improving the productivity of these resources.

This system is based on three principles:

  • designing out waste and pollution
  • keeping products and materials in continuous use and
  • regenerating natural systems.

At CAWRA, we are committed to contributing to this sustainable model. By efficiently sorting and processing kerbside recyclables, we prevent valuable resources from ending up in landfill and reduce the demand for virgin materials. This conserves natural resources and minimises the environmental impact for our partner councils and their residents.

Our operations create a closed-loop system where materials like paper, glass, metal, and plastic are continuously repurposed into new products. This cycle supports local businesses, creates economic value, and fosters a resilient and sustainable community where waste is transformed into resources.

By turning waste into a valuable resource, CAWRA plays a crucial role in closing the loop and advancing the circular economy.
