Recycle Right

While our MRF primarily processes kerbside recycling materials, it's important to know how to handle other types of household waste as well.

Kerbside Recycling

Our MRF processes the contents of your yellow kerbside recycling bin. Here’s what you should and shouldn’t include:

Acceptable Items:

  • Paper & cardboard
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Metal cans and tins
  • Hard plastics (containers, bottles)

Non-Acceptable Items:

  • Batteries
  • Soft plastics (bags, wrappers)
  • Food waste
  • Textiles
  • Electronic waste

Organic Material

While we don't process organic waste at our MRF, composting and green bins are vital for reducing landfill waste.

Use your green bin for:

  • Food scraps
  • Garden clippings
  • Small branches
  • Tissue and paper towel

Refer to your local council’s guidelines for more information on organic waste disposal.

E-Waste

Electronic waste contains hazardous materials and should never be placed in your kerbside bin.

E-waste includes:

  • Computers and laptops
  • Mobile phones
  • TVs and monitors
  • Small appliances
  • Anything with a cord and electrical plug or a battery

Look for designated e-waste drop-off points or special collection events in your area.

Batteries

Never bin your batteries

Batteries (especially lithium-ion batteries) can cause fires when damaged. They should never be placed in your kerbside bins.

Where can I drop off my loose handheld batteries?

It’s free and very easy to drop your used batteries off to be recycled, at over 400 free drop-off locations across South Australia.

Collection points for loose, standard batteries, such as AA, AAA, C D, 9V, 6V and button batteries are available at your local Aldi, Bunnings, Coles, Foodland, IGA and Woolworths stores.

Hard Waste

For large items like furniture, appliances, and mattresses, use your council’s hard waste collection service. This service is typically scheduled periodically, and you may need to book a collection.

Log onto your Council website to learn more about how to book a hard waste collection.

Hard-to-Recycle Items

Some items require special programs to recycle:

  • Textiles: Donate usable clothing or find textile recycling programs.
  • Light bulbs and fluorescent tubes: Take to designated collection points.
